True stories written by members of the Venice POPS club will be read at a fundraising event on Monday evening, June 13.

POPS, which stands for Pain of the Prison System, is a nonprofit started at Venice in early 2013 to serve the needs of high school students with incarcerated loved ones.

The true stories will be presented by professional actors, including Amy Landecker of “Transparent” fame and Maximilian Hernandez of “Hand of God,” at the Kirk Douglas Theatre in Culver City.

A cocktail reception with Border Grill food and wine will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., the stories will be performed from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., and coffee and dessert by Anne Thornton of Little Pine and Food Network fame will be served from 8:30 to 9:30p.m. There will be music and a hip hop dance troop.

“I feel like this will be a great opportunity to show that we (POPS students) aren’t alone and everything we do is by doing it together,” said POPS president Tyanni Gomez. “It’s going to turn out amazing.”

The tickets cost $125 and benefit POPS. To get tickets, visit sparkoffrose.com. It will take place at the theater at 9820 W. Washington Blvd.
