The boys varsity basketball team lost in the second round of Division I playoffs (CIFLACS) on Feb. 21.

Their first round was a home game where Venice beat South Gate 67-62 on Feb. 15.

According to Coach David Galley, the boys never trailed behind in the game. “Southgate scored the first basket,” said Coach David Galley “and Venice scored and never looked back.”

The second round game was an away game against Crenshaw on Feb. 21. Unfortunately, Venice lost 78-61. When asked about the game, Coach Galley expressed that he was proud of the boys.

“Compared to other teams that played Crenshaw,” said the coach, “Venice lost by the least amount of points.”

Venice only lost to Crenshaw by 17 points, said Coach Galley, whereas Crenshaw beat Poly by 45 points, Palisades by 30 points and Granada Hills by 20 points.

“It’s sad to say my high school basketball career is over,” said senior Thabiso Moroke. “I learned a lot playing with these boys.”

Coach Galley said that this is the first year that the Venice High boys basketball team made it to Division I playoffs.

“They didn’t win, but they passed some milestones and I’m proud of them,” said Coach Galley.
