For many, track season is coming to an end but to some it is the beginning of finals.

Only the runners who qualified with extraordinary times for their specific event were able to compete in Preliminary Finals.

Sprint Coach Ivan Gomez says the season has progressed positively and that his expectations were met and taken to another level because of the teams hard work.

Ten runners from Venice made it to CIF Los Angeles Section Track and Field City Preliminary Finals and on May 19 at Birmingham Community Charter School, Venice competed at the championships. Unfortunately, four runners did not qualify for City Finals.

Five runners remained: freshmen Andrea Gallardo who placed 12th in the 800 meter run  and 9th in the 1,600 meter run, sophomores Destiny Clark came in 4th in the 400 meter run and Levi Reyes-Premer who came in 1st in the 800 meter run, and senior Tyler Hall placed 9th in the 800 meter run.

“Our new freshman\sophomore runners were really dedicated,” said long distance Coach Vidal Sandoval. “It shows growth for our team in the future.”

These runners will compete at Finals on May 26 at El Camino Community College.

“Its nerve-racking but I am excited to compete in City Finals on the 26.” said Hall.
