Chess Club

The Chess Club is meant for everyone and anyone who wants to get together with others and play chess. The club is not only limited to chess, so any type of board game is also welcomed. A personal goal of the Chess Club President, Qianhui Fang, is to reach out to special-ed students and actually teach them to play chess. A member of the club, Samuel Yoshioka, enjoys Chess Club, and said it is really fun. “ I used to be really bad at chess, but once I joined, I had became good at it,” said Yoshioka. If you would like to join the Chess Club, they meet every Friday at lunch in Room 223.

Band Club

Students hear the band at pep rallies, football games, and just about anywhere where school spirit is is encouraged. The Gondolier Marching Band is a frce to be reckoned with stomping and playing its way through the campus. Band is an activity that meets after school in Room 3. It is an period 7 class that meets until 5 p.m.. The class allows students to explore their interests with music and to just have fun. If you have experience, there’s advanced band and if you’re just starting with your instrument, there’s a beginning band. Even if you are not interested in music, there is a position called color guard....

Chatelaines and Esquires

Chatelaines and Esquires is all about serving the school during and outside of school hours. It is for juniors “who show commitment to the community,” according to the Venice High website. Member Alex Martin, said the former club sponsor and retired teacher, Sheri Nagata, told them it looks great on college applications and helps improve responsibility. The club meets every Wednesday at nutrition in Room 204. Current members signed up in the spring of last semester. To qualify, students must be a sophomore and must have good grades, including no D’s, F’s, or U’s.

The Spanish Club’s purpose is to promote a better understanding and awareness of the Hispanic culture through various activities throughout the year. Teacher Luisa Leon’s goal is to raise student and community awareness of the Hispanic culture and to teach students to respect a culture that might not be their own. “It is a great opportunity to explore culture and diversity of the Spanish and Latin America community,” said Ms. Leon. “It’s been a very enjoyable experience exploring diversity and everyone should have the opportunity to do so, ” said chapter president Melissa Kitagawa.
