Freshman Axel Hernandez shared the Super Bowl stage with Coldplay, Beyonce and Bruno Mars. He accompanied the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (YOLA) with his viola, as they sang and played music with the superstars for a world-wide TV audience. During a YOLA rehearsal, Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin showed up to tell them that the string section of the orchestra, that Hernandez was part of would be performing at the Super Bowl. Venice High selected as a pilot school for Google Hangouts

Venice has been selected as one of a few LAUSD schools to be a pilot school for Google Hangouts. Google Hangouts is a communication service that allows teachers and students to communicate via instant messaging and video chat in the classroom setting. On Dec. 12, Google sent out 12 “Googlers” to Venice High, and trained teachers for five hours on Google Classroom. Ms. Courtney Lockwood, Mr. Brent Rojo, and Principal Oryla Wiedoeft met with contacts from Google last September. Google has an office near Venice. On the evening of Jan. 10, around 11 p.m., three intruders broke in to Cunningham Hall. The intruders broke into Mr. Barry Vella, Mr. Darren Kitajima, and Ms. Keli Arslancan’s rooms. The individuals left chalk and chalk dust on the floor and made a mess. They also broke Mr. Vella’s computer screen. On the first day back from winter break, students who had those three teachers were temporarily relocated as LAPD investigated the rooms and collected evidence.
