After over 20 years at Venice High School, physical education teacher Sophie Sabbah is saying goodbye to the Gondoliers.

She’s been the water polo and swim coach; she’s run ASB/Leadership; she’s also taught students about taking care of a baby with the use of an egg in Health classes. Sabbah has done a little bit of everything here at Venice High.

“Sabbah does everything with her heart and soul,” said senior Lucy Ravenelle. “She feels like a mama bear figure to us.”

Not only will Sabbah be greatly missed by her students because of the bond she created with them, but she will also miss her students greatly.

“I love this school, and I love my students,” she said. “This is the hardest thing I’m going to have to do.”

While she’s played her hand at everything, Sabbah recalls her favorite memory at Venice, being able to see this school grow and seeing the community grow around it.

“I’m so proud of how much Venice has grown,” said Sabbah.

While Sabbah won’t teach here anymore, she still plans to continue to visit Venice High every chance she gets.

“I will be back here for all the football games. Anything I can be here for, I will be,” she said.
