Sincerely by Kali Uchis

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Love letters and bows, lace and feathers:

Just some words to describe this album’s ambience.

Sincerely by Kali Uchis is an album that flows delicately down your spine and consumes every inch of your body. A pretty ribbon full of hums and echoed melodies that flow through your heart around your body, and fade into one another as the next song begins.

Her lyrics combine into a song and produce a feeling so spiritually deep that it leaves an imprint on your mind. Her feminine energy surrounds you in a cloudy pink haze.

Song titles such as “Heaven is home…,” “ Sugar! Honey! Love!” and “Sunshine & Rain…” all fit into the aesthetic.

Love, tea cups, and everything above.

Yet to grow from her seed she is reborn through her love and passion for music. The son she welcomed into the world last year was a major chapter in her life, as was the hardship of her mother passing.

This album expresses the stains left and the lingering thoughts one deals with. This album is a complete circle. She grew from the obstacles and sprouted her petals to show her rose.

As you sit on the grass, the spring turning into the hot summer, you think back to that one album you always play when the time comes. Well, this is my 2025 summer album. It evokes the ending of my junior year and the new person I am compared to last year. Just like her previous albums, Isolation and Por Vida, they were moments in time I used to be.

Songs that made me feel as if time stopped when I listened to them in her new album were “Silk Lingerie” and “Territorial,” which were my personal favorites out of the 14 songs. Both of them are a continuation of each other that bounced from lyric to lyric to create this story-like portrayal that makes you want to reset the turntable on the record over and over again.

“Silk Lingerie” is this entrancing ballad that captures that feeling of being so consumed in your person that everything they do is so perfect. Their mannerisms, their beauty inside and out, and what they stand for makes their presence so admirable.

On top of that, her voice takes the song to another level. It’s unique, one of a kind to the music industry. It harmonizes and develops into a beautiful track that fades into “Territorial”.

“Territorial” is up next with a hit of its title. To be so wrapped up in your lane and try to ignore the outside noise. People on the outside who you once trusted jabbing their way into what is yours and making up their own rules in your own life is a stab in the back when you’ve shown them nothing but respect in the friendship.

“Don’t try to be my friend/ cause I see you for what you are, your desperation’s gone too far,” Uchis sings. She conveys wanting to hold a relationship in your hands and keep it. Like bangs! And thuds! coming into your space and having your partner right by your side to run away from it.

These songs are a reflection of her current relationship. In her album Isolation, made in 2018, she sings, “No, I won’t grab you by the arm when you go / No one can give me what I want / Yeah, I know, ” on “Tomorrow.” We see that she’s sprouted– not only as a person and character but with a partner she truly loves.

Entering motherhood is a huge step in life. This album opens up about many topics such as friends that deserve better than their evil situationships, questioning her partner’s love when she’s not all dolled up, and her son. Kali Uchis made “ILYSMIH” crediting her song to him as one of the writers.

It is such a beautiful thing to witness. She sings, “My baby’s really here.” She made it known that her dream was to have a family of her own.

Her passage through life has ups and downs like every other person’s. Every moment of pain was all worth it, as her baby showed her what her life was really worth.

This album is an album full of love. Flowers and cherry colored lipstick stains. She made it known that Heaven really is a home. She’s surrounded by everything she’s ever wanted.

Life with cameras flashing 24/7 and a microphone on stand by gets so tiring, and she’s finally gotten away from it.  At the end of “Heaven Is a Home,” she makes sure to sing, “This is a story of a girl who was once imprisoned by her own mind, and freedom’s never felt so good.”

This is an album of pure bliss. This album is one of my favorites, not only because of her ability to combine her voice and musical sounds to produce amazing songs, but also because of her ability to connect to my personal life.

It is a one of a kind piece the industry doesn’t really see to this day. While the winter gloom passes, here comes the June bloom.

“All I can say is,”

Sincerely, Val.
