Girls Volleyball Team Spikes Down the Competition

Two long winning streaks have helped the Gondoliers get off to a strong start! They won five games in a row, lost one, and then won seven straight games. However it has not been easy, as they have faced numerous challenges with dominant teams such as Palisades and Eagle Rock High giving them losses in late September.

The team is not discouraged because the players look to help each other through the losses and encourage each other to give it their all.

“It’s not just getting the dubs (wins) that matter but also being there for our teammates.” said Jeristella Go (plays outside hitter). She said it is necessary to keep them unphased, as the chemistry that they have created throughout the season has developed into their biggest strength that allows them to persevere.

The team’s record is 15-8 following the loss against Palisades High. Now the team is looking to improve on whatever weaknesses they can find amongst themselves.

“One thing we can improve on is our inconsistencies, as whenever we have a great game we always come to a breaking point and then fall short towards the end,” said Karylle Dizon, junior. She said that the team is looking for vengeance when they get to play on Pali’s homecourt.

The next home game for the girl’s volleyball team is on Oct. 14 at 4 pm against Westchester High School.
