Nadera Powell
My name is Nadera Powell and I am an 11th grader here at Venice High School, and I am in the World Languages and Global Studies Magnet in my third year of studying Spanish. I am from South Central Los Angeles, so I am one of the students who has to ride the bus and coming to school on the opposite side of town has forced me to really appreciate my being on this campus. I am also from a family of immigrants from Central America and the Caribbean, with a mixture of Jamaican and Belizean heritage and because of that I have a strong passion for reporting on issues involving immigrant rights and any social justice issue. I have a strong background in advocacy, working with Community Coalition in South LA and the ACLU, and I plan to continue to cultivate an education in public policy and lawmaking. But until then, I am an average high school student who is ready to absorb information whenever possible!
