Girls’ soccer, 2-1, will look to bounce back from a tough loss as they take on the 1-0 Dr. Maya Angelou Community Phoenix today. The game will be on the road at 2:30 P.M.

According to coach Chaka Forman, the Gondoliers know little of Maya Angelou and only that it’s a top division team.

“The game is a big unknown but we’ll need to be much better technically on the ball and play smarter soccer,” he said. “We always expect everyone on the field to go 100 percent.”

The loss was a 6-0 blow-out against the Santa Monica Vikings Monday. Forman noted that the Gondoliers were missing some impact players but gave credit to opposing girls for beating them in every element of the game.

“I was disappointed with the effort and intensity on our side and hopefully it was a wake-up call for our team,” Forman said.

Still, Forman is confident that his team will bounce back versus the Phoenix today and gave some words of encouragement for the girls.

“We are three-time champs, but nobody cares about last year or any of our titles,” he said. “When you want to run with the big dogs, you have to be hungry. Time will tell if we have a place at the table.”
