Boys’ soccer has advanced to the team’s first ever CIF city championship game. They will take on the 18-2 Amino Robinson Monarchs today at 3:00 PM.

The last time the two teams matched up, Amino Robinson won 1-0, so Venice will be looking to “seek revenge,” coach Dillon Chapman said.

According to Chapman, the Gondoliers’ game plan for the Monarchs is to continue playing the way they’ve been playing, especially in the last half of the regular season.

“We will try to play our football quickly on the ground and direct,” Chapman said. “We have a lot of offensive threats, and defensively we play gritty and make a point to win all the 50-50s on the field.”

The Gondoliers have overcome adversity and now have a chance to take the city champion crown, Chapman said.

“We never gave up, continued to learn from our mistakes and worked on what we needed to work on,” Chapman said. “The boys have such a strong spirit and believe in themselves and each other and it all came together at the right time.”
