A Dive Into The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Trial
May 2, 2022
Actor Johnny Depp is being sued by his ex-wife Amber Heard, and the allegations made in this case are ones for the books.
“I feel that the loser of the case will suffer greater damage to their reputation. The only real winners here are the lawyers,” said Social Studies teacher Ahsan Minhas.
Heard is alleging that Depp was domestically abusive toward her; however, Depp alleged the same thing about Heard.
On top of domestic abuse, Depp is suing her for $50 million for defamation.
“Mr. Depp has sued Ms. Heard for defamation, which means that he believes that she has knowingly made false statements about him in public that have damaged his reputation, and Ms. Heard has subsequently counter-sued for defamation,” Minhas explained.
On the Innocent Till Tipsy podcast, Danielle Dell’Olio reflected on her experience in the courtroom as a spectator; she mentioned many of the “weird” encounters that occurred, including multiple moments of silence by Depp and seeing Heard’s lawyers ‘struggle to find evidence.’
One of the main pieces of evidence in which a loophole was found was in a testimony given by Heard. In the testimony, she alleged that the abuse from Depp had been from 2014 to 2016 and that she had to carry the Milani Cosmetics Conceal + Perfect All-in-One Correcting Kit in her bag everyday in order to hide the bruises given to her by Depp.
After this claim, the actual brand Milani stepped in on Tik Tok to point out Heard’s inaccuracies, because the kit that Heard claimed to use on the daily wasn’t released until 2017.
There’s so much more to this case, but one thing is very clear. Regardless of the court ruling, something as serious as divorce and domestic abuse has been put on display for the whole world to see and careers have been ruined. All that anyone can hope is that justice is served in this case.
“I think the main reason they’re all broadcasting everything live is because I feel like if they don’t show recordings and Johnny Depp does win the case, everyone’s going to be like ‘How dare [Depp], the court is covering all the abuse towards Amber, they’re all lying,” said senior Audren Gonzales.
