Forget coffee, tea, Celcius, and mineral water—boba is where it’s at.  Despite what your teacher normally says about Wikipedia being an unreliable source, this is what it describes boba as: “It most commonly consists of tea accompanied by chewy tapioca balls, but it can be made with other toppings as well, such as grass jelly, aloe vera, red bean, etc.”

Look at coffee—it’s mainly just caffeine and milk. I don’t know about you, but all that mixed together normally doesn’t taste the best when it’s overpriced at a cool and trendy spot. 

On top of that, it usually makes you feel sluggish and gross once the caffeine wears off. You end up crashing and getting a major case of the coffee headaches. 

Tea is only acceptable when you’re feeling sick or extremely cold. I’d never ever just drink tea randomly. It only tastes good when it’s warm and even then, it’s still so weird.

Not to mention how many different fruit-flavored teas or cookie flavored teas there are. It’s such a waste of money to try and buy all different flavors or brands to find a good brand. It’s not worth it. 

Don’t even get me started on carbonated drinks as a whole. Ever since I was little, I’ve hated the idea of a carbonated drink or even a soda. The texture is unpalatable and tastes gross when you’re eating. 

This leads me to say that boba is THE BEST drink ever. 

From coffee to strawberry or even matcha, boba has so much more to offer in comparison to any other drink. Plus, it has hundreds of ad-ins like boba balls, lychee jelly, and even crystal boba that can all be put into the drink. Not to mention certain kinds of drinks actually have caffeine so they give you that rush of energy most people get from coffee.

My personal order is lychee jelly with strawberry black tea from Refresh. 

The location is so close to Venice High and, depending on the day, it has a pretty short line. Plus, their chocolate chip cookies are AMAZING!!! I can’t tell you how many days I’ve gone to get boba after school or before a football game at Refresh.

 You should definitely give boba a try the next time you happen to pass by a place that sells it because, well, boba’s the best.
