A Minecraft Movie is making me embarrassed to have ever loved Minecraft. Millions of Minecrafts nerds and I are appalled by the teaser trailer that was released early September.
The movie is a combination of live action and CGI which resulted in an awkward look. They tried to make the Minecraft world come to life but blocky pigs with glowing eyes and Jason Momoa’s new haircut provokes a disturbing image.
Minecraft is known for its colorful blocky world, which was done… okay. The problem is the humans standing in front of an obvious green screen. Seeing live action humans destroys the illusion of the world. It feels like everything was edited using Meta AI.
The hyper-realistic mockups of the Minecraft creatures are terrifying. I don’t know how they managed to turn sheep and llamas into nightmare fuel.
This could’ve been saved with actors voicing-over Minecraft shaped animated characters but instead they chose to throw in Jack Black with a blue shirt and call it a day. At least Jason Mamoa decided to wear the ridiculous wig and pink leather fringe jacket.
It feels like so much effort was put into production but not enough thought went into the idea. The movie has so much potential which makes me really disappointed. Besides Jason Mamoa and Jack Black, the rest of the cast is equally impressive with Emma Myers, Kate McKinnon, and Jennifer Coolige.
I can already predict the entire plot of the movie. Characters get stuck in a video game and have to find their way out. Oh no!
Honestly I didn’t expect the Minecraft film adaption to be amazing, but I definitely expected better. All I can do is laugh at the mess it is right now.
