On April 23rd, Beyonce released her sixth studio album “Lemonade” which features the recent hit single “Formation,” “Hold Up,” Sorry” and “6 Inch.”

In April, Beyonce will begin The Formation World Tour to promote the album.

“Lemonade” collaborates with artists like Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z, Jack White, and The Weeknd. “Lemonade” has already had six out of its 13 songs in iTunes’s top 10.

Accompanying the album, an hour-long film also titled “Lemonade” consists of music videos for each song in the album. The film “Lemonade” aired on April 23rd on HBO, and is available for live streaming on the website “Tidal.”

The album title was inspired by Beyonce’s grandmother Agnez Dereon, and Jay Z’s grandmother Hattie White, according to CBC news.

At the end of the song “Freedom,” White speaks at her 90th birthday party saying “I had my ups and downs, but I always found inner strength to pull myself up. I was served lemons, but I made lemonade.”

“Lemonade” reflects on the themes of love, family, empowerment, and betrayal. Beyonce touches on the feelings of denial, anger, depression, and acceptance. Every song tells a story, from African American women from the south and the struggles they had to face for hundreds of years, to feminism.

The entire album stresses the idea of overcoming hard times, and Beyonce expresses that message in every one of the songs.
