J.K. Rowling’s newest film, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, was one of the most highly anticipated films of 2016 by Harry Potter fans everywhere. Even though none of the characters from the original series were in the movie, familiar features like house elves and the Harry Potter opening sequence make up for it. You don’t have to be familiar with Harry Potter to enjoy the film, but for those who are, it adds some nostalgia to the viewing experience.

The story opens with a new hero, Newt Scamander, an ex-Hogwarts student in search of magical beasts in New York City. The new scenery and plotline aren’t only refreshing additions to the Harry Potter series, they’re exciting, too. “Fantastic Beasts” doesn’t spare a single detail when it comes to visuals; the effects are stunning and make you feel as if you’re part of the scene itself. Plot twists and developments in this film were very well done, every element of “Fantastic Beasts” was captivating. The characters are all unique and lovable in their own ways and the humor is tasteful, a movie perfect for anyone to watch.

If you’re looking for a movie to watch, alone or with family or friends, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” is an excellent choice, because The Oarsman gives it 5 stars.
