Christmas is arriving very soon! We humans have the habit of saying “Merry Christmas” to everyone.  We should consider the thought that not everyone celebrates Christmas.

Christmas is a holiday commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. People from different religions such as Judaism or Islam don’t celebrate this holiday because they don’t believe in Jesus.  

It’s mostly Christians that celebrate Christmas. Jews celebrate Hanukkah instead of Christmas. During Hanukkah, Jews celebrate the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.

In a post about Christmas on Quora  Waleed Kadous wrote, “If we were to celebrate Jesus’ birthday, it would be in March or September, based on indications in the Bible.” He added that Muslims believe that people who celebrate
Christmas focus too much on the fictional person “Saint Nicholas” or as we know him Santa Claus.

We should  say “Happy Holidays“ instead of “Merry Christmas“ because not everyone celebrates it but they do typically celebrate a holiday,especially New Year’s. I feel like if we say “Merry Christmas” we are excluding everyone else who celebrates a holiday in December.  I believe that since we frequently  say “Merry Christmas,”  people from different religions feel like the holiday they celebrate isn’t important. They shouldn’t feel that way because everyone has the right of celebrating their own belief.
