Duties of Sports Medicine

Sports Medicine is a team of students that provides treatment to student athletes at the school. They also look after students who get injured in an emergency during school hours.
“If something happens to a student, whether it be at a sports game or during regular school hours, we’d be the ones to respond.” said senior Mary Soliman, who has been a member of the Sports Medicine team since she was a sophomore.
“We are training and learning 80 hours a semester, the same amount as a regular academic class,” said Soliman. “We are very qualified as we take many first aid classes and learn about what to do if an emergency were to occur. We even train at a camp during the summer.”
Students in sports med also help prevent injuries by providing ice or tape at games and making sure all precautions have been taken to prevent as many injuries as possible.
As well as looking after injured students, Sports med is in charge of earthquake and fire drills. They are role models on this campus that are always looking for the safety of everybody at Venice, said Soliman.
