December 15, 2014
With tryouts just ending for varsity and junior varsity boy’s soccer, players are now practicing for the upcoming season. Last season they finished with a record of 14 wins and 15 losses with ex-coach Carlos Cabrera. This year they have a new coach Javier Aké, with a different type of methods.
Their season will start next semester, but for now, varsity will be playing two pregames to practice.
Varsity played its first pregame on Dec. 3 against Carson at Venice’
s Watson Field, but it got cancelled due to rain. Varsity also played another pregame against Banning on Dec. 5 with a score of 7 (banning)- 0 (Venice).
“Right now, we are focusing on just playing good,” said Aké. ”We are playing total soccer, so people can practice everything, not just one thing. We are not worrying about upcoming games, but right now we are worrying about player’
s performances. When the time comes, we will start to get ready a upcoming games.” The coach said he wants to make varsity a good overall team, not just on offense or defense.
The varsity team played their first season game against Palisades on Dec. 10th. “I’m really not nervous about upcoming games, but right now I am not confident about our team because we haven’t practiced a lot,” said Alexis Garcia. At this moment, I am still unsure if we are ready because we still have a lot to do and upcoming games are getting closer and closer to us.”As the season gets closer, the team is getting prepared to face their upcoming opponents like Hamilton on Dec. 12, Westchester on Dec. 15, and University on Jan. 14,” The team is missing is a good overall goalkeeper,” Varsity player Omar Mitra said,” I feel that we can beat Carson if we get a goalkeeper,” . The goalkeeper, Juan Hernandez , had to say this”
im very excited and pleased to be a goalkeeper for the soccer team. I feel a bit nervous about upcoming games, but I feel confident and great.
