The sixth-seeded boy’s volleyball team has advanced to the finals of the CIF Division 1 Playoffs, beating Narbonne High School in the first round 3-0 and upsetting both third-seed Cleveland High School 3-1, and second-seeded Van Nuys High School 3-0. They will play the first-seeded Carson High School on May 7 for the Division 1 championship, the most competitive division in the city.

“It feels great to advance to finals,” said senior captain Ian Dunipace. “That’s been our biggest goal all season.”

“It feels great to see my friends on the team succeed in achieving their goal of making it to the championship,” said junior Frankie Sandoval. “I’m proud of them because I know they work hard to be where they are today.”

Unfortunately, the team lost the championship matchup against first-seed Carson High School 3-1. They kept the game close until the last set where they only managed to score nine points.

“It’s an amazing achievement and displays the competitive nature of our team, but it’s disappointing to make it to the finals and be so close and come up short.” said junior Patrick Buckley.
