Girls’ volleyball will host LACES today in their second game of the 2021-22 season. The team will have to be ready for anything since it’s their first match-up of the year, coach Raul Aviles said.

“We will practice as many game-like situations as possible, make adjustments during the match as needed, and control the pace of the game from the service line,” Aviles said.

Senior Logan Takahasi, a captain, added that it’s also about finding what works best and how they can keep the ball in their court.

Monday, August 23, the Gondoliers defeated the Sylmar Spartans 3-0 at home to tip off the season. According to Takahasi, the team’s strong chemistry was a main catalyst behind their victory.

“Our team is mostly seniors,” Takahasi said. “So many of us have known each other for years.”

During the match, Takahasi noted that the Gondoliers were able to serve well and keep the ball in play, even when they weren’t at their best.

Coach Aviles is also proud of the team’s performance against the Spartans.

“Our team showed up to play with a solid game plan of playing consistent offense with minimal errors, and an aggressive and consistent attack from the service line,” Aviles said.

Aviles thought that the Gondolier’s defense was tough as well, as they held the Spartans to zero points.
