After competing this past Saturday at Oxnard High School, the Mighty Gondolier Marching Band finished their season strong. They scored 66 points—enough to earn them first place.

After failing to place at their last competition, they ended their season at the Oxnard Field Tournament with a first place in the 1A division, third place percussion open division (overall), and first place percussion in their division.

“We are a small group, and what we can achieve together, even being small, is amazing,” said senior Miles Davies, the band’s drum major.

However, the group was not able to reach SCSBOA championships, according to Davies.

“I do wish we made championships this year,” Davies said. “But the awards we got and how close we were to championships shows that we will get there in coming years.”

This is not the last time we will see the marching band this year. The Venice community will still get to see the musicians perform at halftime during Friday’s football game against Reseda High School.
