With a new field, softball will open its season against Fairfax at home today.

According to coach Tizoc Campos, there have been girls that haven’t had a softball field at Venice for three years.

“This new field is a great start to helping us rebuild the softball program for Venice High and more importantly give our girls the same equitable attention this program deserves,” he said.

According to freshman Allison Cunningham, it will be a “challenge” against the Lions.

Unfortunately, there have already been setbacks this season because of injuries, said senior Ashley Fox, a co-captain.

“We’ve always had injuries but I think this year we’re experiencing more, and we’re trying to limit that,” she said.

The Gondoliers will visit University Thursday.
