Venice High expects to open new on-campus sports facilities, including tennis courts and outdoor basketball courts, during the 2022-2023 academic school year.

The tennis courts are expected to be fully finished around this fall, and players on the girls’ tennis team are eager to finally play on their home turf, according to coach Andrew Horan.

Venice’s tennis players have been traveling to Mark Twain Middle School four days a week in order to practice and play matches.

“The construction of tennis courts has not affected our season at all,” Horan said. “I’m optimistic for what’s to come for the team in the future.”

According to boys’ basketball coach Dave Galley, the outdoor courts will positively add to the school culture.

“Their main use is for an in-school recreational experience during gym periods,” he said.

Physical education teacher, Kelly Kehr, said that the basketball courts are already in use during P.E.

“We are going to utilize the courts and give the kids another option to play basketball during P.E.”

Galley mentioned that Venice’s courts are not available to the public.

The courts are not open, as of right now, during nutrition and lunch.
