Boys’ soccer, 4–2 overall, is gearing up for an exciting season, playing against the Crossroads Roadrunners, 2–0 overall Monday, today at 5:30 p.m. “Crossroads is going to be another battle like this one. They’re a very good team, and it’s on a very small pitch,” Coach Nick Webster said.

“On the Westside, they’re one of the best teams, so it’ll be a good one for sure,” added Senior Zack Lev. Webster is confident in the connection he has with his
players and the progress they’ve made together. “The first year was a real getting to know each other year,” he said. “And, you know, I’ve built up some great relationships with the players, and we’re really excited about year two.” The team has been putting in the work to ensure a strong start to the season. Their preparation began as early as October, with a month of training before the official preseason started.

“In preseason, we’ve been working very hard every day training. We’ve already played four games,” Webster said. “We’re developing our system of play, and we’re definitely getting a bit of chemistry together. So all things are very positive for the moment.” The Gondos faced off against the Hoover Tornados, 3–1 overall, this Monday, winning 3-1. “We were outstanding. We showed real composure under a lot of provocation,” said Webster.

Senior Carter Lawrenceled with a comeback goal and Senior Zack Lev and Sophomore Alejandro Gamero stepped up and scored a goal, leading their team to a thrilling victory. “It was a goal that gave us the advantage to win so I’m very proud,” said Gamero. Last Friday, the team crushed the Westchester Comets with a commanding 10-0 victory.

Senior Billy Quinn, the captain, scored a hat trick, leading the team’s impressive offensive display. Webster emphasized the collective talent and determination of his team. “We’ve got 24 players to look out for on varsity, they all have a desire to really improve and be successful as a team,” he said.
