Girls’ water polo, 2–3, is confident going into their upcoming matches knowing their communication is their primary strength. “It’s something we do all the time,” said senior Madeline Hernandez. “We’re going to win.”
Today at 3:30 PM, the Gondoliers host the LACES Unicorns, 0–0. However, Hernandez said the team is not just focusing on physical training.
“We all treat each other like family,” said Hernandez. “We talk to each other before games. When one player is sad, we all try to lift her up.”
Fostering a sense of community, the team often plays social games and bonds before, during, and after matches.
Unfortunately, training has been stunted this season due to the pool being closed.
“We haven’t had access to the pool recently,” said Hernandez, but that does not slow down the team. “Our accomplishment is dedication. Our players often miss events to go to practice and sacrifice a lot.”
Additionally, the current roster is one of the strongest yet. “Several freshmen really stand out,” said Hernandez, naming players like freshman Fatima Aliyev. “They pick up the necessary skills really fast,”
