Venice High School’s Student Run LA (SRLA) members have been training since last year to participate in the 31st LA Marathon which is being held on Valentine’s Day.

“This will be my 10th in LA but 11th marathon,” said Mr. Michael Smith, who is in charge of SRLA at Venice.

“I’m pretty nervous even though it’s my third year because every year is different, but I can’t wait to wake up at 3:50 a.m.,” said senior Maria Martinez.

Twenty six Venice students and five adults, two of which are teachers, will be running this Sunday’s marathon.

The 26.2- mile marathon will begin at Dodger Stadium and finish at Santa Monica.

The “Stadium to the Sea” course includes an abundance of iconic landmarks that make Los Angeles famous around the world, such as Disney Concert Hall and Grauman’s Chinese Theater.

“More than 33,000 students have been a part of Students Run L.A. and 90% of them have completed the marathon,” according to lamarathon.com
