On December 1st, Ms. Ruth Greene and Ms. Keli Arslancan will be conducting a field trip to the Autry Museum of the American West to visit the La Raza Exhibition.

The Autry Museum is a museum located in Griffith Park with the focus on the history of the American West. This museum also provides a variety of public activities like lectures, film, theater, and music.

Both Ms. Greene and Ms. Arslancan will be taking one of their 11th grade classes and members of M.E.Ch.A. (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlan). Also Ms.Greene will take her Mexican American Literature class to this museum on a separate date.

From September 16, 2017 to February 10, 2019 the Autry Museum will be featuring photography from La Raza newspaper. This newspaper based in Los Angeles was central to the Chicano Rights Movement that occurred in the 1960s and 1970s.

The Autry’s exhibition is focused on the role of photography that gave both a vision and a voice to the Mexican American people in Los Angeles during this time. The photography shaped an identity for the Mexican American people while also helping to call for empowerment and change.

Ms. Greene said she wants her Mexican American Literature class to see the influence and importance that these events had on Los Angeles today.

The Autry Museum is open Tuesday-Friday: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located at 4700 Western Heritage Way in Griffith Park.
