The girls’ tennis team, led by coach Dom Flores, has finished one of the most successful seasons in Venice’s recent history on Nov 14 by winning the Division 2 City Championship against Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies 4-3 at the Balboa Sports Center. The team’s overall record was 12-4 and Western League record was 10-3.

In the first two rounds of the playoffs Nov 2 and 7, Venice beat both Garfield and University High School 6-1. They then proceeded to best Birmingham 5-2 in the semifinals Nov 9.

There were many highlights to the season. When asked about her best moment of the season, junior Madison Kim said “My biggest accomplishment was when my partner Thin (Nyo) and I beat the Uni doubles who are really good.”

The sensation of victory came earlier than expected for senior Claire Combredet. “During my game I didn’t know that doubles 1 and 3 and singles 1 and 2 had already won, so I thought we hadn’t won when I finished my game! I was so happy when I found out that we’d already won.”

This is the last game for seniors Combredet, Kazuha Miyoshi, Tenzing Sherpa, Nyo and Ismenia Say and a victorious exit it is!
