The boys soccer team of Venice High School are ready for their season to start. The team is determined to improve their rankings from last year. Last season the boys made it to the quarterfinals CIFLACS Division IV before being knocked out.

“I feel excited, I feel ready to come back and hopefully do better than we did last year,” said Varsity Coach Ivan Gomez.

With many new players this year, the team this year is still adjusting to playing as one group together.

“Although we don’t have everybody from last year, I think we can still perform really well,” said varsity right back Thaddaeus Mammo. “We have a lot of new talent.”

In addition to a new team, some of the boys are new to the soccer program as a whole and are getting used to the feeling of being part of a team.

“ I’m trying to get to know my teammates because I don’t know them at all,” said varsity right back Denilson Perez.
For their first game Nov. 29, the team played Animo Venice Charter High School in a preseason scrimmage where they had a great win with a score of 4-0.

With league games coming up, the team is most excited to play rival Palisades High School. The Pali game will be played at Venice at 2:30 p.m. on Jan.17.

“Pali is our rival and they always beat us but this year it might be different,” said Mammo.

Their next upcoming home game will be played against Fairfax on Jan. 12 at 2:30 p.m.
