Soccer season is finally here! The Venice boys soccer team has started playing CIF league games and is hopeful for the results as the season progresses.

With a current Western League standing of 1-5-1, the beginning games didn’t go as the team planned.

“Results don’t show that we’re off to a good start, but i think the team is playing well,” said Varsity Coach Ivan Gomez.

“Once we get things rolling I think we are going to have a good season.”

As of right now, the team is working on improving their offensive skills to be able to attack against their upcoming opponents.

“We couldn’t score on them,” said Varsity Captain Hector Arriaga.

“We had no finishing, that’s why we are practicing that right now.”

Arriaga is referring to the Palisades game the boys had on Jan. 16 where they took an unfortunate loss of 1-0.

Since the season started, Gomez has rotated the players around the field to see which “team plays more effective.” As a result, he is hoping to change the scoreboards to lead the team into victory.

With many more league games to come, the boys will be playing Hamilton on Feb. 7 and Westchester on Feb. 9, both of which are home games that start at 2:30 p.m.
