Venice’s Varsity Cheer team traveled to Birmingham High School on Saturday May 12 where they competed in the LA City Championship for the first time. Venice went up against the top schools  in the Los Angeles City Section for the championship. Venice won seventh place overall, placing above Carson.

After placing second in the regional competition that took place on Saturday April 28, Venice, Carson and Narbonne were the three local schools that advanced to the city championship. Despite dropping one stunt during their regional routine, Venice was able to place second after Carson which was a school Venice had beat before and had high hopes of beating again.

“Going into the championship, our main goal was to hit our routine and beat Carson, and that is exactly what we did,” said cheer captain Rebecca Halfacre.

“The fact that we made it to the city championships was a huge achievement,” said cheer captain Kelly Lopez. “Out of all of our rival schools, we were the only team to make it that far in our division and I could not be prouder of my team.”
