Associated Student Body (ASB) Leadership and Black Student Union (BSU) have partnered together to organize a Thanksgiving food drive to donate food for families in need in Lamar Park. ASB Leadership provided boxes to teachers interested in collecting food items and advertised the food drive throughout the school. Food items were collected on Wednesday, Nov. 14, totaling up to 17 boxes of canned food and eight bags of other dry foods.

Students and staff were allowed to donate food items such as rice, pasta, cereal, popcorn, canned beans, canned soups, low sodium veggies, shelf stable milk and more. Donations were turned in to teachers participating in the food drive or to room 131 in the Cunningham Building.

Originally, donations were only accepted from Wednesday, Nov. 7 until Wednesday, Nov. 14. However, the final date was extended to Friday, Nov. 16.

“We’re definitely thinking of starting earlier next year and considering families in Venice that are needy, so we can provide them with some food,” said ASB Leadership teacher Ms. Angela Fajardo.
