The girls varsity basketball team lost their Jan. 29 game against Palisades High School 57-32. They stand at 7-11 overall and 4-5 in the Western League, which is one of the toughest leagues in the city.

“I think the team has been doing very well considering the injuries some teammates have suffered,” said junior Captain Chrissy Wakasa. “We give a solid effort most of the time, but there’s always room for improvement.”

The team also enjoyed a win against Fairfax, a top-ranked team in California, who has dominated many ot their games for years. Venice won the Dec. 3 game 58-34.

“It feels really rewarding to finally beat Fairfax this season because they’ve been a top team for so many years,” Wakasa continued. “It’s a great feeling to know that I’ve been a part of a team that’s been able to beat them.”

The girls varsity basketball team plays their next game at home against LACES High School Jan. 30 at 4:30 pm.
