Dr. Mendoza Leaving Venice

Principal Elsa Mendoza has accepted a new position as Administrator of Option School Principal Support for ESC West and in her new position she will be working with different principals to increase the focus and support students need in alternative programs.
“ It is disappointing to see our well, respected principal leave. She will be dearly missed and it’s also a mystery to see who will be the future of this school,” said Auto Shop Arnold Winston.
During the four-plus years Dr. Mendoza lead Venice, Venice High School reached the following goals:
yearly API growth
met academic yearly progress goals in 2013
expansion of AP course offerings
increased parental involvement
specificly from the community school
implementation of the STEm magnet
significant increase of the English Learner Reclassification rate
the school received a six-year WASC accreditation and increased graduation rate (26 point increase from 2013-2014).
Dr. Mendoza will begin her new role of administrator in Jan. 2015.
A site selection committee participate in the process to select a new principal. (Mendoza and school community have been working on with Instructional Director Jaime Morales.) A temporary principal will start in the spring semester but will remain until a permanent principal is hired.
“I’m glad Dr. Mendoza has been giving the chance to be a part of a higher position,” said Assistant Principal Rene Maza.

Good riddance! She ruined this school. I’m so glad I got out before things got really bad. It’s just very unfortunate that the only way we can get incompetent employees in LAUSD out of our schools is by promoting them to higher positions.
