After a slow start to the season, the Venice baseball team has bounced back, starting off with a 6-0 league play. So far, they are 9-17 this season. They are currently tied with Palisades for first in the Western League.

The team has lost some very close games that came down to one or two pitches, leading to some disappointing losses. Junior Kai Casillas explains what has been their biggest problem this season.

“We’ve had a very hard schedule, but we are still playing teams very close,” said Casillas. “We’ve really struggled this year with closing out games this year.”

For Coach Kevin Brockway, his season hasn’t been the best in recent memory, but he still thinks there is a lot of promise for the team heading into playoffs. The one consistency about the team has been their pitching. Sophomore Deon Dizon has led the way, winning 3 games and a team leading 30 strikeouts.

“Our success has been on the mound,” said Coach Brockway. “The pitching has been outstanding, throughout all of the games.”
