Unfortunately, the start of the 2019 season has not been easy for the Venice High School varsity boys water polo team. The Gondoliers dropped their first three matches, including a non-league game to El Camino Real High School at home on Monday, Sept. 26. Then, they lost their first road game 7-6 to Torrance High School. And their most recent loss was a home game against Banning High School.

Yet the team still remains optimistic and confident that they can make it to the finals and take home the championship.

“It’s definitely not a great feeling to be on a losing streak,” said Varsity captain Andres Ayuyao. “But we can’t let that stop our progress, and we’ll eventually find our groove.”

Fellow captain Gabe Purnell added, “We can find our groove by coming out with a lot more intensity and with better communication.”

Varsity player Vlad Alexiu confidently promised that the team will get a ticket to the finals and beat up rival Palisades High School.

The boys water polo team will play their next home game on Wednesday, October 12 against Los Angeles CEC at 2:30 pm.
