After a strong 9-6 year, girls’ tennis is revving up to start off the new season with their first match against Santa Monica today.
“I have hopes that this year we’ll win, because I believe our team is a lot stronger,” according to junior Ella Wind, a co-captain with senior Kali Lapeyre.
The team was knocked out in the semi-finals of the Division 1 L.A. City Sectionals against Taft last year. But, hopes for this season are high.
“I think there is a lot of potential to have a really good winning streak this year and make it far into playoffs,” Wind said.
Preparation is important to this team.
“We’ve been preparing by having lots of practices,” Wind said. “We’ve had some summer practices as well. We’re just getting into the mindset of having to lock in.”
There’s a great mix of experience and newcomers on the team, according to Wind.
“We have a really strong starting 10,” she said. “We have a lot of girls that have played tennis and a lot of girls who have put in work over the off-season.
“I feel like our team is even stronger than last year’s. I think just overall the skill has just gone up.”
