Football, 1-3, will be going head to head against the Paramount Pirates, 3-1, at their home turf tonight at 7:30 p.m.
The game against the Pirates will mark the end of the non-league season with next week’s game against the Hamilton Yankees starting the league season.
“Paramount is going to be one of the biggest tests for now, coming off our first win last week against Santee,” said senior Tate Evarts, a co-captain alongside seniors Noah Devlin and Nathan Santacruz. “We’re going to really see what this team is made of, and where we can go.”
Tate said the Gondoliers and the Pirates have strong players but that “it’s going to come down to who wants it more.”
With league starting next week, the Gondoliers have high expectations. They feel prepared after their non-league match-ups.
“I believe we have a really good chance of winning league,” Evarts said. “We have played against a lot of really good teams to create some resistance early on in the season so that when we get to league, we’re ready to go.”
The Gondoliers will continue to practice harder everyday, since it will become more intense and serious during the league season.
“I am a firm believer that we can 100% do that and create a good spot for ourselves in the playoffs,” Evarts said.
