Football, 4-4 overall, will continue to protect their number one position in the Western League away against the Fairfax Lions, 3-5 overall, tonight at 7:30 p.m.
The Lions have a “strong run game” according to senior Tate Evarts, a co-captain alongside seniors Noah Devlin and Nathan Santacruz.
“It is something we have struggled with defending in the beginning of the season but are getting better at each week.”
In order for the Gondoliers to officially reign victorious over the Western League, they must defeat the Fairfax Lions tonight alongside the Westchester Comets next Friday.
“That is why we’re treating the last two league games like they are playoff games,” he said. “We stole what they wanted, and now we have to defend it.”
Thanks to the Gondoliers being number one in the league, they have a target on their back. If they continue to play strong and win the Western League, the Gondos will be “in a good position for playoffs,” Evarts said.
Last Friday, the Gondoliers narrowly defeated their all-time rivals the Palisades Dolphins, 6-2 overall, in an intense 45-44 game.
Evarts highlights the win over the Dolphins as a “team effort.
“We had some really big plays that changed the game and we were able to overcome adversity,” he said.
“The intensity at practice increased leading up to the game.”
This match up allowed for the Gondos to have a higher likelihood to win the Western League.
