Girls’ soccer, 3-1-2, are more focused on working together as a unit. Senior Alex Rosen said there are some challenges when it comes to adjusting to playing as a team. “It can be difficult, because people like to play a certain way or are used to things on their club team that are different from high school,” she said.
The Gondoliers have a lot of young talent; there’s only three seniors on this year’s team: Rosen, Ava Mehr, and Izzy Mylan. “There are many new players this season that are bringing new energy and talent to the team,” Rosen said.
“Many players this season have been out due to club commitments and injuries. However, the team is starting to come back together and are now taking time to work on building their chemistry and getting better with time,” Mehr said. Tomorrow, the Gondoliers play against the Crossroads Roadrunners, who are 1-2 overall Monday.
“I’m just going to go and do what I can and I have trust in my teammates that they’ll do the same,” Mehr said. Despite the team still trying to find their chemistry, the Gondoliers have already started to turn the tide. They secured a victory against the Taft Toreadors 3-1 December 2 after suffering a 1-0 loss against the South Gate Rams November 22.
“The loss against South Gate kind of was an eye opener saying, ‘We really need to get it together, because if we’re losing simple games, when it comes to playoffs it’s not going to work,’” said Mehr.
Mehr attributed their success to everyone contributing and putting effort into the team, “everyone plays a part in being a good team.”
