Baseball To Finish Series Against Uni Tonight After Pitching A No Hitter

Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Gondoliers, 11-1, will be facing the University Wildcats, 6-6, to end their series tonight at 6PM.

This past Wednesday, the Gondos ended the first match against the Wildcats in a 12-0 win with senior Noel Moreno, a captain, pitching a no hitter.

Coming into this game, “the team feels great, we have Canon King on the mound,”  Moreno said.

“We don’t really have any worries, we just can’t take them lightly and continue to play with heart,” Moreno said.

Moreno who has pitched a no hitter last year in a game against Westchester said, “I usually keep a steady routine for every game I pitch and it usually involves meditating before the game starts for a couple minutes.”

Although this time around there was a shorter period of time to prepare, “I didn’t get to fully do my routine and felt pretty rushed. I was still able to meditate and do some other small things to help me overcome the rough innings,” Moreno said.

Despite giving up walks earlier in the game, Moreno was able to find the momentum and the strike zone he said.

At the beginning of the game there was also worries about the wind, “I knew the wind was going to play a little bit of a factor but it died down later in the game,” said Moreno

Moreno explains his thought process as he’s pitching.

“I kind of just talk to myself, trying to know the situation, who’s the batter, and where I’m supposed to be if they try and lay down a bunt.”

Throughout the game there were some changes being made that prevented runs.
“I had to slow myself down a bit to find the strike zone. It ended up working pretty well and paid off,” Moreno said.

The crowd also played a factor with many guests coming from University High to support their team.

“I think I do a good job tuning out the crowd, I usually stay locked in and don’t let anything interfere with doing what I’m supposed to do,” Moreno said.

There was an equal amount of support from the home side as well. “My family being there and cheering for me had motivated me,” said Moreno.
