Boys’ soccer, 12–7–3, came to a tough end with a first-round playoff 3-0 loss in the CIF Open Division LA City Sectional Soccer Championships against South East.
The loss closes the chapter on a year filled with growth, leadership, and back-to-back league success.
Coach Webster said the early playoff exit was not what the team had hoped for.
“It’s disappointing because I had high hopes for us to make a big, deep playoff run,” Webster said.
Despite the loss, the season was far from unsuccessful. The team finished tied for first in league for the second straight year—something the program has not accomplished in a long time.
“We tied for league again. That’s two years in a row that we’ve finished at the top of the Western League,” Webster said. “We finished tied for the league, which was a great achievement.”
The team competed in the Open Division instead of Division I, facing tougher competition throughout the playoffs.
“I thought we would probably go Division I, but instead we went Open Division, which was always really tough,” Webster said. “We had to meet a good team and play our A-game, and we didn’t play our own game when we needed to.”
Throughout the season, there were plenty of memorable moments. Webster pointed to key matchups and exciting finishes.
“We had a couple of great games against Pali,” he said. “We had some last-minute winners. Lots of great stuff happened all season long.”
He emphasized the team’s focus on taking the season one step at a time.
“We’re just going to try to take it game by game and win every game,” he said. “If everyone shows up committed, ready to play, and gives 100 percent, we should be able to win.”
Leadership played a major role in the team’s success, especially after graduating seniors in previous years. This season’s senior class, including senior London Webster, stepped up both on and off the field.
“I think every senior on the team deserves a big shout out,” London said. “We’ve really been stepping it up. We take care of the equipment and make sure everything’s in order. We’re the main reason practice starts smoothly and ends seamlessly.”
As another senior class prepares to graduate, Coach Webster knows their leadership will be missed.
“It’s always tough losing seniors. Seniors are your leaders,” he said. “Next year, there’s going to be a whole new group of seniors.”
