The Venice Gondoliers 3–3 are to prove themselves as one of the top football programs in the city, showing growth, toughness, and determination as the season heats up.
Head Coach Angelo Gasca reflected on the team’s recent performance, praising their effort and resilience.
“It was a good game,” Gasca said.
“We played very hard against a much-improved program. They were 5-0—that was the fourth undefeated team we’ve played this season so far. Our guys did a great job overcoming a few injuries and some tough referee calls.”
Even with challenges along the way, Gasca said the team continues to improve each week.
“You never really ‘meet’ your expectations,” he said.
“But we’re definitely getting better—and that’s the key to any team or season. Every Friday is like a test. You prepare, you study, and then you find out how much you’ve learned. For us, that’s what football is.”
Several standout players have played key roles in Venice’s success this season. “Senior Johnathan Sharp and Senior Joshua Aaron continue to be exceptional,” Gasca said.
“Senior Nicholas Stratman and Junior Will Oeser have done great work at linebacker, and Bennett Dome is improving at quarterback. Aaron Minter has been solid all along at receiver. Really, everyone’s improving—and that’s what you want at this point in the season.”
Captain Jonathan Sharp has been a major part of the team’s leadership and energy this year.
“I’ve met my goals this season through hard work and dedication,” Sharp said. “My next goal is to be the Western Section Player of the Year.”
Sharp also shared his hopes for the team as playoffs approach. “I just want us to make it to the championship,” he said. “I think it’s possible if we lock in and stay healthy.”
When asked about the future of the program, Sharp expressed confidence. “Yeah, I think the team’s in good hands for the future,” he said.
Gasca also pointed to this Friday’s upcoming matchup against Palisades High School as one of the most important of the season.
“This is a pivotal time,” Horen said. “That game will be huge for who wins the league championship and how we’re seeded in the playoffs. If we’re not ready now, we’re never going to be.”
As Venice prepares for the final stretch of the regular season, their focus remains steady, which is to stay healthy, stay united, and keep improving. The Gondos’ path to the league championship is within reach and they’re ready to fight for it.
