Girls’ soccer, 6-0-1 overall Thursday, continues to push forward in spite of seniors from last year, said coach Chaka Forman.

“We just picked right up where we left off,” he said. “Everybody gets a year older, so everybody matures,” Forman said.

The team has added three new freshmen to their roster which means there’s a need to build chemistry again, “It’s a work in progress, but chemistry is for sure a critical component to what we want to do. So we’re working on it,” said Forman.

The Gondoliers have been on roll. The team opened up their season with a 10-1 win against the Marshall Barristers December 1, and it’s continued into last week’s 6-1 victory against LACES at home.

“We’d never played Marshall in the last few years, so we were excited for them to come over. They were in the D1 championship last year,” Forman said.

Some strategies the team used against the Marshall Barristers was to, “hit them hard early, and we did. And sort of knocked them back on their feet a little bit, and then they never really were able to recover,” he said.

The Santa Monica Vikings in a mainly defensive game where they ended in a 1-1 tie December 2.

“We showed our resilience in that game because we went down, and then we were able to tie the game late,” said Forman.

Between the Vikings and the Barristers, the Santa Monica Vikings are faster and more organized.

“They’re a completely different animal than Marshall,” Forman said.

Having different fields also played a role in how the team performs,

“Santa Monica plays on turf, so it’s a faster game. We like playing on turf. It provides us the opportunity to play at a quicker pace, so we love to travel,” said Forman.

The Gondoliers were to have played Windward Saturday.
