After falling a game shy of winning a championship last season, girls’ water polo, 3-6, has returned with a renewed purpose.

Coach Rigo Mora said he has seen massive growth from his players.

“When I first came in, they were all fresh and green,” Mora said. “So now, we’re really getting to see everyone after three years of progress.”

For the first time in 15 years, Venice has beaten Palisades. The Gondoliers beat Palisades 11-10 Wednesday, and they secured a 15-9 victory against them November 22. It’s a sign of the team’s advancement.

The pressure of the season becomes more than just physical though, according to junior Angelina Golgert, a co-captain with junior Banksy Chen.

“It’s a lot of dedication and commitment,” she said.

Mora also noted that the season happens around the time when team members are studying for finals and submitting college applications.

Despite the pressure, the team is stronger together.

“We’re resilient,” Golgert said.
