Six Flags Opens In Qiddiya City With Record Breaking Attractions

Reading Time: 5 minutes

If there is an easy way to relieve a substantial amount of debt, it is opening one of the world’s most record breaking amusement parks.

The Six Flags Entertainment Corporation opened their twenty-eighth amusement park New Year’s Eve 2025 in Qiddiya City in Riyadh Province, Saudi Arabia.

The project was started in 2019 and later built over a four year period so that on opening day all twenty-eight rides and attractions will be open. Funded by many different investors and companies, the almost ten billion dollar budget was put to good use as ideas came to life in the desert.

There are plenty of rides and attractions to highlight at this park, but among the twenty-eight attractions, Six Flags built five record breaking rides that host up to around ten thousand eager visitors.

Falcons Flight

The first ride on this list is a roller coaster located in the City of Thrills land inside the park; however, the ride stretches along the outskirts of over half the park. The ride goes around sections of Discovery Springs, Steam Town, Grand Exposition, Valley of Fortune, and just before the ride makes it to the last land, Twilight Gardens, it turns away from the park and goes into the mountains.

If you haven’t already guessed, the first record this ride breaks is the world’s longest roller coaster. The track is 4,250 meters or 2.6 miles long and lasts approximately three and a half minutes.

The length of the track on Falcons Flight allowed the manufacturers to build the world’s tallest roller coaster, at a staggering 195 meters or 640 feet, beating the record from before by over two hundred feet. Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point was the last record, standing at 420 feet; the ride became the tallest roller coaster after the demolition of Kingda K in 2024.

The best record that Falcons Flight breaks used to be owned by Formula Rossa at Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi. The record for the fastest roller coaster was set at 240 kilometers per hour or 149.1 miles per hour and then broken with the opening of Falcons Flight. The ride hits top speeds of 250 kilometers per hour or 155 miles per hour. The ride is so fast that the manufacturers built in a fighter jet style windshield that protects guests from the extreme winds and sand.

The final record that Falcons Flight holds is the roller coaster with the tallest freestanding coaster element. The ride has an airtime hill at the elevation of 163 meters or 535 feet.

For those who don’t know, an airtime hill can be the best part of many roller coasters. An airtime hill is a roller coaster element that is designed to lift guests out of their seats, creating the sensation of “floating.” Picture it as a camelback, where the ride vehicle goes over at higher speeds. Because of the speed, negative G-forces are applied and the rides rise out of their seats, safely.

Sirocco Tower

With the addition of this record breaking drop tower, Six Flags broke its own record that they had for over ten years. Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom at Six Flags Great Adventure was the world’s tallest drop tower at 139 meters or 456 feet, but Sirocco Tower made Zumanjaro look like your tallest friend standing next to your shortest friend.

Sirocco Tower stands at 145 meters or 475 feet tall and as any good drop tower does, it takes riders straight up and then idles as suspense builds up until it drops straight down, reaching speeds of 97 kilometers per hour or 60 miles per hour.

Iron Rattler

Next up on the record breaking list is the world’s tallest tilt coaster. The tilt occurs at the height of 63.4 meters or 208 feet and after locking into place, riders are dropped at a 90 degree angle into a dark tunnel.

A tilt coaster is an amazing engineering achievement in the world of roller coasters and is done with a unique mechanism where the train will stop on a detached and horizontal segment of the track and once the train is locked in place, the track will tilt. The tilt usually ends at 90 degrees where guests are facing straight down. Finally, the train will release from the track and drop straight down.

Spitfire

Spitfire doesn’t have the longest track length, but that doesn’t stop it from breaking a world record.

The ride’s highlight and world record is its triple launch. The triple launch system is a method that accelerates a train three separate times during a single ride cycle; it will propel the train forward, then backward, and finally forward again.

The first launch out of the station sends the train halfway up an inversion before falling back down backwards.

However, this is on purpose. The second launch will send riders faster backwards and the ride features a great vertical spike where riders are sent straight up backwards, but before the train reaches the end of the track, it comes to a brief stop, and as gravity begins to pull the coaster down, there is a small moment where riders experience a weightless feeling that is the highlight of every vertical spike.

Once the train falls, it will launch through the loading station which is the final of the triple launch system, and accelerate to 127 kilometers per hour or 79 miles per hour.

With the speed built up from the triple launch, the train flies up an arch which at its peak, inverts upside down and then builds speed back down the other side.

That single invert at 73 meters or 240 feet makes the Spitfire the world’s tallest inverting coaster and tallest triple-launch coaster, beating out Alpengeist at Busch Gardens Williamsburg by 45 feet.

Gyrospin

The one ride on this list I would consider sitting out of on this list of record breakers is the Gyrospin. The Gyrospin is the world’s tallest pendulum ride, its max height reaching an insane 53 meters or 173 feet.

Not only is the pendulum swinging the most terrifying it can get, being the tallest in the world, but the ride vehicle, that sits guests in a circular gondola, also spins simultaneously with the ride, at a fast ten rotations per minute.

Wrap Up

Even beyond its numerous records, Six Flags Qiddiya City offers an amusement park experience beyond extreme thrills. Taking world records from many other parks, including some that were already owned by Six Flags, the world’s most record breaking park is different from any other amusement park in the world.

Not only is the park a great step for Six Flags, being its first park outside of America, but with the nearly ten billion dollars invested, Six Flags Qiddiya City represents a major step in Saudi Arabia’s push towards tourism and entertainment, which is part of their Vision 2030 plan. The park created thousands of jobs, and is also expected to attract millions of guests each year.

Six Flag Qiddiya City is more than just another amusement park. It seems to be a statement by Six Flags. By breaking multiple records in a single location, Six Flags has made this park a global destination for thrill seekers including myself. Whether it’s riding the fastest roller coaster in the world, dropping from almost five hundred feet, or zooming around backwards, the park delivers experiences that are unmatched, and will be for many years to come.
