It was a crazy year for Lana Del Rey and her fans around the world.

In the past year, Lana has returned to the spotlight following the release of her ninth studio album Did you know that there’s a tunnel under ocean blvd in March. 

Lana last toured in 2019 for the Norman F*cking Rockwell tour which was supposed to run into 2020, the remainder shows were canceled due to the pandemic. In 2023 she returned to the stage. She kicked off her summer music festival tour performing music festivals around the world from Brazil’s MITA Music Festival in May, to England’s Glastonbury Festival & Outside Land’s in San Francisco, CA. 

In 2023, Lana has been captured in many iconic moments from her iconic shift at a Waffle House restaurant in Alabama, to her appearance at Billboard WIM 2023

Prior to the release of her ‘Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd’ album in March she hosted a global listening party at multiple music stores like Amoeba Hollywood and a pop-up shop in Long Beach, CA. 

Here’s a reflection of every month for Lana Del Rey in 2023.

January: Interview Magazine Photoshoot

February: Release of A&W by Lana Del Rey

As the anticipation for Lana’s ninth studio album Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd grew, she released her single A&W on February 14, 2023.

The month of March was very eventful for Lana. She started off the month by attending the 2023 Billboard Women In Music Awards, and on March 3, she was presented with the Visionary Award. Lana’s 9th studio album Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd was then released on March 24. She had a global listening party two-days prior to the release of the album. 

Music stores around the world opened their doors to fans to listen to the album before its release on March 22. Lana opened a pop-up store on the Shoreline Aquatic Park in Long Beach from March 24 to March 26. Fans were in line for hours to try to catch some exclusive merchandise, from her iconic racing jacket to her rare vinyls which were exclusively reprinted. Those fans who went to the pop-up on March 26 were welcomed with a visit from Lana’s dad Rob Grant and her sister Caroline Grant; they even surprised fans with a FaceTime call from Lana herself.

This month was also full of exciting news and announcements for the fans. Lana announced that she would be performing at Glastonbury Festival in the UK and headlining MITA Music Festival in Brazil among other music festivals over the summer. The anticipation of a tour being announced was high. Lana made an appearance at the High Water Festival in Charleston, South Carolina on April 15. She went on stage during the band Bleachers set. Lana alongside Jack Antonoff performed a song off Lana’s new album, Margaret which Jack is featured in.

May: MITA Music Festival

The anticipation was at its peak in May, Lana was returning to the stage at MITA Music Festival in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on May 27. Many fans cheered for Lana as she walked on stage and began the show by performing “A&W” for the first time. Many fans around the world turned in to watch different live streams of fan’s angles during the show.

June: Rob Grant at Venice Beach ft. Lana Del Rey

June was a very special moment for Lana and her dad. Rob Grant’s Lost At Sea album released on June 9. It is a classical music album which his daughter “Lizzy” is featured in twice. Rob explained to fans how Lana got involved in one of the songs on the album Hollywood Bowl. He talks about how he was working on a song on her piano.

“She came down and right away she heard it—she loved it and she began to sing,” Rob said. 

“She’s got a big picture of the Hollywood Bowl in her living room, and as she’s singing she’s looking around and she sees the picture, and that’s where the lyric came from.”

Rob gave away hats and shirts to celebrate the album’s release; he also signed fan’s shirts and took photos and he even got to sign a Venice High School’s student’s yearbook!

Lana spent her summer performing at multiple festivals around Europe and North America but she made a stop in the south and she performed at the Newport Folk Fest in Rhode Island. A few days prior, Lana was spotted working at a Waffle House in Alabama on July 20 which drove the internet crazy.

August: Lana Del Rey in Mexico (“Lana, Hermana, ya eres Mexicana”)

Lana performed at the Outside Lands Music Festival in San Francisco on August 11, her last performance at this festival was in 2016.

She then took the show to Mexico where she performed at the Foro Sol Stadium in Mexico City, Mexico for two nights on August 15 and 16. She performed in front of a record breaking 65,000 people during the first night.

After performing at multiple music festivals throughout the summer, Lana kicked off the second leg of her tour at the First Bank Amphitheatre in Franklin, Tennessee on September 14.

Lana moderated a Q&A for Joan Baez’s documentary I Am A Noise at the Landmark’s Nuart Theater on October 13 in Los Angeles, CA. She was greeted by multiple fans as she entered the theater that evening. After the event she was greeted by more fans and paparazzi as she left the theater. Lana signed vinyls and took photos with fans who were close enough to her. 

“Can we just agree that this is just f*cking crazy?!” Lana said before she left.

November: Lana joins Nikki Lane on stage

Lana had a long year of performing around the world but she made one last appearance on stage with her friend, Nikki Lane. On November 9, 2023 Nikki Lane performed at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. Lana Joined Nikki to perform “Find Yourself.”

Lana ended the year with a photoshoot for Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS upcoming campaign in 2024. She was photographed by Nadia Lee Cohen on December 1, 2023.
