New Venice High Clubs Add Color To School's Community
Reading Time: 3 minutes

From Zine Club to Sports Psych Club, Venice High school offers a wide variety of different clubs to satisfy students’ interests.

This year Venice has 101 clubs on campus, around 30-40 of these clubs are new.

According to Venice’s associated student body (ASB) advisor Mariah Lara, the clubs at Venice High School help build our community.

“The academic clubs allow students to expand their knowledge in ways that they might not have time to in some of their classes,” she said. “And the other clubs I would say they provide either community service, a way to serve the community, or to just create a community here at Venice and meet other like-minded people.”

Cancer Awareness Club

The aim of the club is to use your voice to raise awareness, volunteer, and discuss the different types of cancer to be able to inform others.

“I started Cancer Awareness Club to spread awareness for cancer as it is a growing problem,” said junior Dashiell Langsbard, the president.

Cancer Awareness Club meets on Wednesdays at lunch in room 16-212.

Fruit Club

Senior Avery Williamson, the president of Fruit Club, said that he started Fruit club to promote nutrition and the importance of vitamins.

During their meetings they will be educating members on the importance of nutritional benefits from fruit, promoting healthy lifestyles, and teaching the cultural background behind fruit. At the end, they also rank every fruit.

Fruit Club meets in Room 16-105 on Wednesdays during Lunch.

“This club is a very social club where people can make friends and learn new stuff,” said Williamson.

Sports Psych Club

Sports Psych Club educates about the mental and psychological side of sports and athletes.

“It teaches athletes how to optimize their mental performance so that it translates to in-game performance,” according to junior Luke Thottam, a co-vice president,

According to Thottam, their meetings consist of talking about how to reflect after a game, how to prepare mentally before a game, and how to deal with a certain team environment and coaching that you don’t like.

The club meets on Tuesdays at Lunch in room 224.

Venice Acapella

Venice Acapella will learn songs and harmonize, and they hope to perform at the winter concert at our school.

“Acapella is a kind of teamwork singing,” said sophomore Adriane Ting, a co-president with sophomore Isabel Howe.

Venice Acapella meets on Mondays at lunch in the band room.

Zine Club

In Zine Club they make zines, which are small handmade booklets made from a single piece of paper folded up that are decorated and made to share. People in this club will be given a chance to contribute to a monthly zine that will be filled with their creations.

“We made our club to be a space where creative people can create,” said sophomore Natasha Ramos, president of Zine Club.

The club meets on Tuesdays at lunch in room 17-209
